petty romance 째째한 로맨스 [movie]

she's reaching yankumi levels of obliviousness

about half way through watching coffee prince a few months ago
i started foraging around for any more lee sungyun series and films
as i was so taken with him as choi hansung.
this little gem popped up and i was surprised by its unusual style
and hystericaly stupid characters.

choi ganghee, who has been in a bunch of good movies -
she starred in the first whispering corridors back in 1998,
(remember that one? she was so tiny wee.) brilliantly co-stars in petty romance
as darim - a translator for an adult magazine who wants to be a writer.

jungbae (sungyun) is a struggling manhwa artist [korean manga] who employs
darim as his story writer hoping to win a highly reguarded adult comic competition as
a partnership - splitting the rather large prize money of 130 million won between them.

darim is completely oblivious to how rediculous she is
and we spend most of the film watching jungbae looking at her
with confused expressions clearly thinking
"what the hell is she talking about now?"
she is absolutely wonderful. such fun to watch. and so pretty.
choi ganghee looks so unbelievably cute in this movie.

lee sungyun is great - as i fully expected him to be.
his manner is so comfortable and natural. i love watching him.
there is likely to be a whole string of movie reviews relating to him
on here by the end of the year. he has quite a list.

the supporting cast were all good too. i cant really think of a bad point
in this film at all.

this movie has that sort of standard bickery relationship turns to love
type thing that is common in many romantic comedies.
but this film has a lot more than just their awesome banter.

i really liked the sudden breaking into manhwa shots as they are explaining the
scenes of the story to each other. it made the film take on a different feel.
i also like the more peaceful times between the two main characters
when they stop arguing for five minutes.

both the story and the visual presentation are really interesting
and although it may fit to pretty much into a standard romantic comedy box
it didnt feel very typical while i was watching it. im glad it had such a good cast
to show off the layers and depth of all the characters
and kim junghoon's lovely story, classy direction and unique sense of humour.

the scene where darim shows off her skills in the bedroom which she had learnt
from her work with the adult magazine was so funny i though i was going to
choke i was laughing so much.

both the main characters were so loveable it was hard
not to cringe and laugh along with them at every turn.
