SNSD 1st Japan Tour 少女時代到来～初来日記念盤

so first off, let me start by saying snsd are the reason i became insane about asian music. they kick started it off, even though i have known of bump of chicken and miyavi etc for many years before, my fan girl nature had not surfaced until i found these girls. it was a few years back now, i watched some videos on youtube and that was it -

i bought a phone they endorsed, loads of posters, and all the music they had done to date - which by that point wasnt enough for me.

as they hadnt really been around that long and written that much stuff i looked for other similar things and it led to the crazed-far-too-old-to-still-be-dancing-round-the-bed-room-listening-to-pop mess you see before you. so yes, i blame you snsd.

hyoyeon, yoona, sunny, taeyeon, seohyun, jessica sooyong tiffany, yuri

people have been quite vicious at times about this band - the anti-fan issue, which i wont even get into right now as it disgusts me, has thrown up lots of weird points that people apparantly cant abide - for one, they were marketed as the female super junior - as much as some didnt like that comparrison i'd actually go along with that - i think they are exactly a female suju. hard working, amazing live, so many members you forget exactly how many there are supposed to be at any given time...

my favourite dancer is hyoyeon. i adore that girl. i could watch her dance all day long. i also really love taeyeon - we'll get back to this point and open that floodgate later...

i also have a soft spot for seohyun since i saw her on we got married with yonghwa - so cute, and such a lovely voice. i think yoona is fantastically gorgeous and i like tiffany's stage pressence.

yuri

jessica and sunny seem to be off in their own little worlds of cute and fluffy,

sooyoung and yuri (who i always muddle up with yoona or seohyun when they are running or dancing fast) have similar soft voices that are always nice to hear even though we dont always hear as much from them as the other girls.

 the 1st japan tour begins with an epically long introduction of swelling music and lights and other such things to make the concert seem like it is half an hour before you even get to see the girls - i dont know that i could have handled that if i was there.

eventually they appear out from this big ass thing in the middle of the stadium - posing and looking as great as the always do. these first white outfits last for quite a lot longer than any other costume change during the show. they go off a few times and you think they'll come back on with something else but i guess they just liked those threads so much they kept them for as long as possible.

when they did eventually change though its like they got a taste for it and couldnt stop! the costume changes became thick and fast and gave the excuse for many many long videos to be played while they werent on stage. nice vids but i wonder how short this live would have been without them? there was probably children not being picked up from school and pets left to starve for the 280 hours that this gig lasted.

so anyway, it starts with a stripped down version of genie that picks up tempo on cue from the pyro guys, they go out on little box podium things and run up and down the aisle stages. it is mostly songs from the 1st japanese album in japanese. they introducethemselves to the crowd in japanese and say a few words of thanks etc. so fluent in japanese by this point as well - its so nice to hear.

more songs in korean (including kissing you - which is my favourite song) some more songs and costume changes - not forgetting the 84 hour long video in order for them to effectively change attire. there is a silhouette video that is absolutely great just before bad girl. didnt realise it was even a video until the graphics went all weird. the best one was before run devil run. that was proably the longest video - the girls were standing around looking at snow twirlling and smilling inanely like something out of a mental hospital garden. then the relfections in the mirrors show the bad sides of the girls coming out. then... out comes taeyeon.

oh god i cant even explain. im just going to put the clip of her bit in here.[see below] i couldnt do it any justice explaining. it is the rocky side of taeyeon that i love. there is something so perfect about her voice for this kind of stuff. i know she can wail but its also her slightly boyish attitude that suits it.

i wouldnt call her a tomboy but she has this quality to her that just always strikes me as a bit raw and kid-like - when she dances she is just as elegant as the other girls i suppose but she throws her self around a little more free, and in a slightly different way to say how hyoyeon leaps around like a bottomless pit of energy - but to the same end taeyeon always looks like she is pushing every move home with conviction and her own style. throwing her hair around like she's inviting anna tsuchiya to dirty dance with her. (that i would definately pay to see)

run devil run was amazing. best part of the show i think. great outfits, great break down. more japanese versions come thick and fast. they really did so well with their japanese albums that it was no surprise their jp tour would rock. there's a bit with plastic walls and black poles - in the middle of beautiful stranger - for about 20 seconds - then its over and i wonder if i imagined it.

they sit on the stage after another costume change then end up on a ship. yes a ship. it works. cutest outfits - they always rock the sailor chick stuff though right? the next video they show is of key from SHINee having delusions of snsd everywhere he goes. also features taemin at the end. this video i what i imagine key's life to be like; constantly surrounded by snsd waving at him. i remember him saying once that he has never dated any of them and never even thought of them as women as he works with them so much. but mr drag-queen-who-knows-every-girl-group-dance-in-the-world-would-rather-dance-the-girls-dances-than-his-own it wouldnt make a difference if you saw them as real women now would it.  (>_*)

i like when they did into the new world, really cool to see them do something from right at the beginning. it shows how much they have grown up, but can still sing and dance that tune with all the fun and innocence as they did back then. oh and did i mention they have feathers on their heads and tassles on their clothes and boots for that one?

they end with some slowish songs but all very lighthearted and to be fair the crowd are probably just relieved that the encores are actually them not more endless videos of them walking or playing with weather.

great show. yoona is never not going to be adorable. i would like her to be in more dramas. and i'd like taeyeon to do a rock album with anna tsuchiya. and hyoyeon to do some sort of street dance show with taemin. and i'd like seohyun and yoona to have a joint solo album - i really like their voices so much. also i think seohyun should join my long list of idols that would become my pets. i can imagine taguchi bugging her trying to get her to play with him while she was trying to quietly read. she'd have to get the ice queen or heessica to come kick his ass.

ive not included any screen shots of the last two costume changes as my computer wouldnt play the last half an hour of the video last night - it got over worked by taeyeon and decided to freak out and shut down.

together these three clips below make up the whole section leading up into and including run devil run; the snow VT, taeyeon's rock chick solo and the whole run devil run performance including the breakdown.


something weird happened to the sound when i cut these clips, the audio is really quiet, sorry. if you turn your pc up to hear these remember to turn it back down afterwards so you dont get deafened by the next thing you put on!

this is turning into an epic long post. i cant help myself. i managed to get a few shots from the end of the show so im putting some extras in. also here is another video clip from the end of the gig. i really cant explain if you dont already understand how great snsd are. happy that yoona is in a drama soon. watching that when it comes out. i still havent finished we got married with seohyun and jonghwa, i almost dont want to end it. but i will. - but that is beside the point. here are the pictures from the last two costume changes of the night. always looking good in sailor stuff. taeyeon had a cute little hat on too. yoona takes the prize for being the most adorable munchkin there though. so even though i have rambled on for ages and ages this is that last video clip from the end. i really like the song and it was the only thing that could have followed into the new world. im still finding their outfits funny - i cant help but think they saved all the cute and stupid for the second half. that boat... was inspired. i think this particular track is like 10 minutes before the very end of the show. a big contrast between the grown up alternative version of genie at the start. it shows they still have fun at least.
