futatsu no spica ふたつのスピカ [series]

i was praised!   - it wasnt praise.

asumi (sakuraba nanami - who is generally exellent in any role) has a dream of going into space. she obliviously nerds at everyone about it (and yes 'nerds' is now a verb for this purpose) so much so that her childhood friend fuuchi (daito shunsuke) ends up loving space too. she is cute when she babbles obsessively about spacey things but she is also  someone to look up to who is very strong and driven.

this series follows the beginning of their first year at space school (heh space school - try and call it that without sounding like an idiot)  asumi lost her mother 10 years previous when a rocket launch failed and crashed in all flamey bits everywhere. flash backs to chibi asumi crying for her mum under the rubble and all the relevent echoey "okaasan! okaasan!" type stuff.

nakamura yuichi ga daisuki desu, honto ni. sqeeeeeee. (^-^)

yuichi graced my laptop screen with his fantastically beautiful face again recently with this drama, but unfortunately for me i loved his character far too much  (you'll know why thats bad when you watch it). he plays shu - ranking top in the school for knowing all spacey type stuff and being great at everything. a really endearing intuitive guy with a calm and warm spirit, big old smile, and the burning desire to go the stars.

i could have watched another 80 episodes of this drama just because of him but alas its only got 7. shu and fuuchi become friends pretty quickly and have nice light hearted commradery.

yup child hood friend fuuchi is secretly in love with her, yup asumi has no idea, yup she kind of likes someone else, but its not about all that - that is just the usual backdrop as this is a japanese drama of course. wouldnt be right without it.

its about striving for a dream, growing up with the pressure of doing so,
and realising what you need friends for in life. its got lots of nice friendship bondy type team mate pep talk bits and also many opportunities to watch sakuraba nanami running, as she does it in probably every episode - no complaints from me, she's great.

ive noticed while watching this that i really like her mouth and the bit just under up bottom lip above her chin. dont know why. check it out see what you think. am i weird? im getting off track...

there are some really gutting moments towards the end i did storm off up the garden after the second to last episode to make myself a load of junk food and console myself i wont explain and spoil it but i was really p*ssed off with how much it made me cry i dont expect that from a measely 7 episode series, so thanks *angry face*

but i love spacey type stuff, people following their dreams,

...so i was happy to have this drama fill my time for a day. have a pic of the gang:
