antique bakery 서양골동양과자점 앤티크 [movie]

can i have a pet demonic gay to go with my pet taguchi please?
i would have the weirdest household...

i just got a load of great screen shots that didnt save properly and had to
go back and do it all over again and watch the film for yet another time.
thats twice today.

hardly a chore though. look at em. jeez.

ok so this is the movie that phrase comes from that i keep
adapting in various ways on my blog with pictures of kim jaewook etc.
"the gay of demonic charm"
is basically what he calls himself in the movie.

yes he is quite possibly the prettiest man alive.

although shocked on hearing this at first all the other characters soon
end up using the term because it rightly suits him best.
every man woman and child falls in love with him and jaewook is the
only person in the world i can think of that could play this role.

im gonna get this squee out of the way now ok? just one massive
one before we start so i dont fill this review of fan girl crap.
this is one for each of them.

phew. ok.

antique is based on the manga 西洋 骨董 洋菓子店
the movie stars joo jihoon (princess hours, the devil) as the manager jin hyuk,
and kim jaewook (coffee prince, marry me mary) as the
genius patissier and stunningly beautiful highly sought after son woo.

it is one of the most successful korean movies to date and really there is no
strain in trying to see why.

apart from the lead characters being so beautiful it makes me sick
this film is full of cakes, silly banter, weird surreal montages
and a bit creepy flash back scarey stuff.

the story is really good and gets all twisted up in unexpected ways,
all the cast are fantastic,
and if i wasnt staring at kim jaewook and joo jihoon im sure
all those cakes would be making me super hungry.

ok so the gay of demonic charm and the manager of this bakery used
to go to school together, demon gay liked manager guy and manager guy
shot him down - rather epically. (i really dont think that is a word)
- in an epic way.

years later demon gay comes to work for manager guy and the shop
takes on a rather less female orientated feel than how the manager first
imagined.

in comes the new lad who is an ex boxer - he adores the demon gay
but not in a gay way - so he is allowed to stay

then in comes manager guy's incompetant childhood friend to cause
havok in the shop by break sh*t and falling over alot.

they form a lovely group of unlikely friends and things come along to test
their bond. for example mr stupid french guy. we dont like him much.
he's mean and we blow raspberries at him when he is on screen.

everyone has a history and as they deal with where life is taking them now
their sometimes dark and uncomfortable pasts begin to surface.
cue hazy flash backs, echoey voices, and weird toothy man.

this is another movie i wouldnt explain much of when reccomending it
as it was glorious fun not knowing anything of it when i watched it myself.

it is actually quite dark in places - it does center around the dark circumstances
of the manager's kidknapping and possible abuse from when he was a child,
only koreans - as i have said before - can deliver such subject matter
with this kind of grace, humour and beauty even in the darkest moments.

it is those things that make me love the film so much - it is now
one of my favourites. the colours, the smooth look of the whole movie,
the genius banter between all the characters.

i cant do this film any justice by explaining.

 aigoo!
